About Gwen
Gwen hails from the breath-taking landscapes of North West Wales.
Her artwork is marked by expressive gestural brushstrokes that capture her emotional response to the experience of being in the landscape.
The materiality and sensual qualities of acrylic paint are important elements of her process. She likes to capture initial emotions and gestural marks in her sketchbooks while outdoors in nature.
Back in her home studio, she develops those ideas from remembered landscapes onto prepared canvases, still retaining the elements and expressions initially caught outdoors.
The painting develops through an almost unconscious process.
“ As and artist, I am constantly in search of something within the act of creation. I paint from the landscapes etched in my memory, cherishing how paint can express what words cannot.”

At Home in the Landscape
From a young age, I was deeply enchanted by the world of art.
Painting brought me not only joy but also a sense of clarity, helping me navigate life's complexities and discover my place within it. Growing up on a coastal farm, I found limitless inspiration in the raw beauty of nature and the quiet rhythms of rural and seaside living.
Studying Fine Art at the University of Glyndwr in North Wales was a pivotal chapter in my creative journey. It challenged me to push my artistic boundaries—embracing larger scales, experimenting with innovative techniques, and gaining fresh perspectives on the art world.
Today, my love for exploring the coast remains a wellspring of inspiration.
Through my work, I aim to forge deep emotional connections to the natural landscapes I cherish. My creative process begins with field sketches and quick paintings made on the shoreline, which serve as the foundation for my studio practice.
Each piece evolves organically, guided by intuition and a subconscious flow that allows my art to take on its own life.
